A Community of Family, Nature, & Place. To set foot on this land is to invite nature to awaken the senses and inspire the imagination. Keowee River has been created with a commitment to achieving the highest standards of ecological and social responsibility rarely applied on such a comprehensive basis. To guide our efforts, Keowee River is using the stringent Audubon International Land Management Guidelines as well as a program established by the U. S. Green Building Council called the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED ®) rating system. Keowee River focuses on innovative ways to restore, reduce, reuse and recycle resources and material. It is a philosophy that permeates every aspect of the community. We are guided by these objectives:

  • Low Impact Development (LID) through a thoughtful and environmentally sensitive planning process we are protecting the area's sustainable resources and working with the contours of the land to provide minimal soil movement.
  • We are providing regenerative water solutions that control storm water at the source. By using site design techniques that store, infiltrate, evaporate and detain runoff we are mimicking the sites natural hydrology. Use of these techniques reduce off-site runoff and ensure adequate ground-water recharge.
  • We have maximized open spaces by clustering residences and commercial facilities that support them, (such as groceries and shops,) within distances where they are reasonably accessible to each other by low impact transportation, like walking or bicycling.
  • We are providing access to green space for educational and recreational experiences.
  • The community has made a significant commitment to minimize the total impervious areas (roadways, sidewalks, driveways and parking areas are the greatest source of site imperviousness) while maximizing green space in a genuine effort to preserve those things that make this property so unique and truly special.
  • We are continually looking for and taking advantage of opportunities to "re-claim" previously degraded environments.
  • The Keowee River Preservation Group LLC. continues to spearhead sustainable community initiatives and collaborative strategic planning with local government while engaging the general public about the need for all citizens to practice good environmental stewardship and contribute to a more regenerative future.
